Overview
Hopa is a mobile game where animals hop onto stacking platforms. Players collect coins during the jump to unlock new characters, adding variety and replay value. The game is easy to start but challenging to master, with simple controls and playful visuals creating a fun and lighthearted experience.
Who it is for
The game is made for casual mobile players who enjoy quick, skill-based challenges with a sense of progression. By featuring adorable voxel animals, bright colors, and approachable gameplay, the experience appeals to younger audiences as well as adults looking for a relaxing break in short play sessions.
Prototyping
I started with a Unity prototype demonstrating the main features: jumping, the score counter, and losing. The point was to be sure the game was fun and solid before going further.
After many iterations I found the right speed for the platforms, which turned out to be the key variable behind the whole difficulty curve.

Core mechanics
Platform spawning. Platforms appear from a blind spot, keeping the player alert and ready. Each new platform feels unexpected, which adds tension to every jump.
Coin collection. Coins sit far above the player, encouraging them to keep hopping to reach them. It is a reward loop that pulls play forward.
Jumping. A hold-to-charge jump keeps the core action intuitive and satisfying.
Scoring. The score rises with every platform landed on, which is enough to make players chase their own record, or a friend’s.

Visual design
I designed the visuals around the audience and the core mechanic. Voxel art with a semi-isometric view gave the scene clarity, and animals as the central theme created an emotional connection with players. The assets were made in MagicaVoxel, which suited the style and kept iteration fast.
To match the theme I chose bright, playful colors, aiming for the feeling the gameplay was already producing.
